Meaningful Ways to Show Your Dog You Love Them

Lets explore meaningful ways to show your dog you love them, without the need to buy their love with treats. If dogs could talk, things would probably be a lot easier, wouldn’t it? Unfortunately, they can’t, but that doesn’t stop us from trying to express ourselves and show our love for our cuddly canines. Sometimes we fail, sometimes we succeed, but it’s usually the thought that counts, right?

Well, if you really want to show your dog that you love them, there are a quite a few meaningful ways to do so.

1. Teaching your dog

Dogs are very intelligent animals, meaning mental stimulation and learning new things is actually a huge factor in their emotional well-being. They have plenty of energy and it needs to go somewhere, so why not teach your dog a couple of new tricks?

By spending at least 15 to 30 minutes each day teaching your dog basic commands and stimulating their body and mind, you’ll keep your dog active and also give them a better understanding of how they can interact with you. Always use something positive like a treat to reward them for their hard work as well.

2. Learn their favourite foods

Who doesn’t love to stuff their face with their favourite foods? Dogs sure do! But knowing what your dog loves to eat can be difficult, so it’s important to spend some time and figure out what exactly it is that your dog loves to eat.

Simply smelling their favourite foods can get your dog excited. But of course, don’t just get premade food from a store! Invest in cooking for your dog. It tastes so much better and it’s a great treat to give your dog now and then. It can even be something regular, such as doing homemade dinners every night for your dog. Not only is it tasty, but it can even save you a bit of money!

3. Don’t be over possessive

There’s such a thing as showing too much love to your dog. You don’t want to smother them with love and always hold on to them because it can train your dog to be a little too dependent on you. This can lead to behavioural problems, such as feeling frightened when you’re not around or being very protective of you against strangers.

Your dog should have the freedom to be themselves, so sheltering them too much has the opposite effect of showing your love. Even if you love your dog to bits, it’s important not to be over possessive and alter their behaviour.

4. Spend time with your dog

Yes, we all have hectic lifestyles and we all need to spend time away from our dogs now and then, but would it hurt to maybe dedicate a day or two to just your dog?

We love our dogs very much, but life can sometimes make it hard for us to interact with them. Dedicate some time to your dog every day or consider spending a day or two each month where you take them to someplace nice. Be it a picnic or going to the park, spending time with your dog is perhaps one of the best ways to show your dog that you love them very dearly.
