Grooming Tips To Make Your Dog Smell Great

Keeping a dog can be wonderful in many ways. They are obviously wonderful companions, and great to have around for that reason, and they can really become your best friend. But that is not to say that it is all good news, and indeed there are some aspects to keeping a dog that many people are less fond about. One such problem is the dog smell that they can produce, which can often be enough to make a home have a really unpleasant scent to it on the whole. Thankfully, there are ways of making sure your dog doesn’t smell too bad, and it all comes down to proper grooming.

Choose The Shampoo Carefully

One of the main concerns here is that you need to ensure you are choosing the appropriate shampoo. If you fail to do that, you could find that you struggle to keep the smell down, and you might not even be cleaning your dog all that well in the process either! When it comes to choosing a shampoo for your dog, make sure you find one that is specially formulated for dogs, particularly those specifically designed to remove bad odours from skin and fur. This is going to be your first line of defence in the fight against your dog’s smell, so it really is important to find a good one.

Try Baking Soda

Here’s something you might not have known: baking soda is like a natural deodorant if used in the right way. It has a property of killing off smells, and it is something that you might want to think about using if you are struggling to get your dog’s smell to pass. Just as you might put a little baking soda on your armpits to help with body odour, so too can you use it on your dog for the same purpose. Simply brush the fur to get rid of any lingering debris, and then massage some baking soda into the fur. Watch out for the eyes! Then, brush out the baking soda again. You’ll be amazed at the difference.

Brushing The Teeth

One of the primary causes of that dog smell is the breath, and this is something that a lot of dog owners forget to do anything about. While dogs don’t need quite the same level of care of their teeth as we do, it is still not a bad idea to give them the occasional brush, especially if you are concerned about their smell. You need to make sure that you use dog-friendly toothpaste, as human toothpaste can be toxic for canines. If possible, brush your dog’s teeth daily, as this will really help to avoid those bad smells, and we’ll ensure their dental hygiene is strong too, of course. Ask your vet or dog groomer for ideas on which toothpaste to buy.

If you do all these things, you should find that your dog smells much better as a result and that your home smells better on the whole as well!
