Whatever the weather, if you’re going to spend a lot of time outdoors, it’s always recommended to use sunscreen. Even in winter, the sun’s powerful UV rays can be harmful to your skin. How they Work
Sunscreens form a barrier on your skin that reflect or filter both UVA and UVB rays. UVA is associated with skin ageing and UVB with skin burning. Sunscreens that protect you against both types of rays are known as “broad spectrum” sunscreens.
Sunscreens contain SPF which helps it absorb or reflect the sun’s UV radiation. This protects you from painful sunburn. The higher the SPF, the more the sunscreen will protect you from harmful rays. For example, if you use a sunscreen with SPF 25 at least, you’ll be safer in the sun for longer.
Even if you use a high factor sunscreen, it’s still advisable to avoid getting too much sun. It’s important to keep regularly applying sunscreen, even with a high SPF. Always remember to re-apply after swimming!
