Thanks to its naturally high oil content, this wood can burn like a candle, which is why locals call it Candlewood. It provides a warm, woody fragrance and serves as a cost-effective alternative to pure sandalwood.

The botanical origin of this tree was only identified in 1886, when scientists distinguished it from true sandalwood through microscopic leaf examination. The Amyris balsamifera tree grows wild in Haiti, and historically, essential oils like this one were once considered more valuable than gold for their healing and aromatic qualities.
