Before you grab a bottle of essential oils and start dabbing it all over your skin……….stop! You should never use neat essential oils on your skin; they should always be diluted with a carrier oil. The reason being essential oils are concentrated extracts and can cause skin irritations if used neat/undiluted.

Less is More

Consider using essential oils the same way you would use traditional medicines. It’s not wise to take extra traditional medicines believing they will work quicker or better. The same can be said for essential oils only use the correct dose. As a rule of thumb, you should always dilute to 2%. This means 2% essential oils to 98% carrier oil. Or roughly 4-5 drops of essential oil to 10ml of carrier oil.

Patch Test First

Always do a patch test when using any new essential oil to make sure you are not sensitive to the oil. Mix 1 drop of essential oil with 2-3 ml of oil and dab onto the inside of your wrist or elbow wait 24 hours. As long as there is no irritation you should then be safe to continue to use.
