Are you trying to cut down on your carbon footprint by using eco-friendly cleaning products in your home cleaning routine? By going green with your cleaning routine it doesn’t mean you have to compromise on cleanliness or convenience. In fact, there are many eco-friendly cleaning options that will save you money, time, and energy while still keeping your home clean and fresh.
Eco friendly cleaning products are becoming increasingly popular because they’re better for our environment. They use less water, produce fewer toxic fumes, and are often made from natural ingredients.
Choose Green Cleaning Products.
There are many different kinds of green cleaning products out there, so it’s important to choose wisely. Look for products with low levels of toxins, such as phthalates, formaldehyde, and triclosan. Also consider whether the product contains ingredients that can cause allergies or skin irritations.
It’s easy to use natural cleaners that won’t harm your family’s health, but as there are so many options available. We thought we’d compile some of our top tips to keep in mind while shopping for these items.
Bicarbonate of Soda – This natural product is great for getting rid of odours and stains.
Bicarbonate of soda is an old tried and tested method for cleaning the home. It’s naturally deodorizing and can help reduce household smells. It also works as a degreaser and as a stain remover.
To use as a stain remover mix one tablespoon of bicarb with enough water to make a thick paste. Place this over the stain for 15 minutes and then rinse. Always test patch first as some materials are not suitable such as marble and aluminium.
Vinegar – A good vinegar cleaner will get rid of tough spots like grease or grime.
Do you need a natural cleaner to cut through grease and grime, try using white vinegar to clean your home. It works well on grease, dirt, and even mildew. Just mix equal parts vinegar and water, then spray onto the area and wipe away. You can use this to clean bathrooms, your kitchen and even windows!
How to clean your home naturally
Are you looking for an alternative to harsh chemicals, try using essential oils instead. Essential oils are concentrated extracts that come from plants. Many of them have antibacterial properties and you can use them to help reduce odors and freshen up your home. This makes essential oils a great option for an eco-friendly cleaning routine.
To make your own DIY cleaner, mix 60ml white vinegar and 400ml water together. Add up to 30 drops of essential oils and stir well. Essential oils we love to use are lavender, lemon, eucalyptus, peppermint or pine. Obviously don’t use all of them together choose the scent you prefer and go from there.
Spray onto surfaces and wipe away with a damp cloth.

Plastic free stain remover
As you know bicarbonate of soda makes a good natural stain remover. But if you want a stain remover that’s plastic free, smells wonderful and removes stains we really love Terre de Sommière hand-made in Marseille France from natural vegan ingredients. Enriched with “Terre de Sommieres” & natural plant extract found in the south of France highly effective at removing stains. Can be used to remove stains on clothes, upholstery, shoes, etc. Also suitable to clean household objects such as ovens and even works on mildew.
Use reusable cleaning cloths
No eco-friendly cleaning routine would be complete without looking at the cleaning tools you use. Instead of using kitchen roll or plastic sponges opt for natural fibre cleaning cloths that will degrade naturally. I really love our organic bamboo dishcloths, they are biodegradable, naturally antimicrobial, and odour-resistant. They are also 40% more absorbent than tradition dishcloths and dry five times faster!
Once they become a bit shabby I use them as cleaning wipes and add them to my jar of homemade wipes. I add water, white vinegar and essential oils. Once the wipes have absorbed the mixture I then use them for cleaning surfaces in the home.
Use a Compostable Sponge
If you’re looking for ways to reduce your household waste, try using a compostable sponge instead of paper towels. They’re made from natural materials, so they biodegrade quickly when thrown into the trash. Using a compostable sponge is a good way to incorporate eco-friendly products for you cleaning routine.
We love using these compostable sponge cloths supplied in a pack of two one koala and one kangaroo print. Made with 70% cellulose and 30% cotton with water-based inks. These 100% natural sponge cloths are certified according to Oeko-Tex standard 100. The cloths do not emit micro-plastic pollution, unlike classic sponge cloths. These sponge cloths are Made in Europe and 10% of profits from this set will go to support NSW Wildlife Rescue Service (WIRES), helping wildlife affected by the Australia bush fires.
The best eco-friendly ways you can clean your home are to use natural products that are supplied plastic-free.
